Abstract

Randomized studies in early-maturing (P2 <8 years, B2 between 8 and 9 years), low–birth weight girls (N = 60) show that calorie restriction mimetic therapy with metformin for 3 years is accompanied by a strikingly leaner body composition (on average, 5.2 kg less gain of fat; 1.6 kg more gain of lean mass; P < .0001).
